Singaporean Artist Clara Lim

Clara Lim, born 1994, is a Singaporean visual creative who holds a Bachelor (Second Upper Honours) in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts, in partnership with Goldsmiths, College of London.

Clara’s approach to art is experimental in her image-making techniques born out of her subconscious state of creation or automatism. Defined as a mediated form of chance, the process breathes an expressive quality into her works as she explores the materiality of the mediums to satiate her curiosity for all things textured and tactile.

Dancing in the Wind 2, 42cm × 58.5cm, Acrylic on canvas

Dancing in The Wind series is inspired by an imagery of butterflies dancing in the breeze at light. The creative process of making is experimental yet intuitive. Paint layers were repeatedly added and removed in an attempt to articulate mixed emotions through mark-making techniques. The work further explores Clara’s interest in the intersection between tactility and visual art.

To Clara, art is a mean to further discover herself while uncovering new ways of seeing, creating, and communicating her personal experiences in words unfound. She hopes to provide an alternative perspective on beauty in the everyday through her works.
