Inspired by a photograph submitted to National Geographic by photographer Aneel Neupane (used with permission from the photographer), the painting showcases a rainy street in Mumbai during the monsoon season. Through the elements of familiarity like the trademark black and yellow taxi and the fruit cart, the tempo and vibrancy of colours contrast with the usual impression of grey and gloomy torrential. One can almost smell the hot buttered and spiced corn cob and taste the strong ginger tea that perfectly accompanies this weather. Having lived in or visited the subcontinent, one cannot fail to be moved by the charm of simplicity of this scene.
